Vaping 101: A Brief Beginner's Guide

-Authored by Randi Sprintis

Welcome you to the world of vaping! If you’re reading this, it either means you’ve just begun to vape, you’re interested in vaping, or maybe someone close to you vapes and you’re curious about the whole operation. Regardless of your intentions, you’re in the right place. Below you’ll find a quick guide to understanding what vaping actually is and how to get started.

It’s also important to note that the overall vaping community is made up of very inviting people who love to share insider information about products and styles. Never hesitate to ask a vape retail representative or a fellow vaper a question. There’s rarely ever a moment of judgment when someone shows an honest interest in what vaping is or the products you need to start vaping. With that being said, let’s explore!

What is Vaping?

Essentially, vaping is the process of heating e-liquid, often referred to as e-juice, with a wire coil to produce a vape that you inhale. You inhale from an e-cigarette in a very similar way that you would from an actual cigarette. The length of these hits can vary due to personal style or the type of vaping device.

It’s also worth noting that people who vape are referred to as “vapers” and never “smokers”. Even though some e-cigarettes may look like a cigarette and the act of vaping may look similar to smoking, they’re two different acts. In this case, despite looking and walking like a duck, vaping is most certainly not one. It’s important for most people in the vaping industry to separate themselves from Big Tobacco as well.

What You Will Need

Even though the act of vaping seems simple, choosing the right device can be a little complex, especially for a beginner. That’s why many people will recommend finding cig-a-likes, like the Halo G6, because it’s easy to use and there are a variety of flavors to choose from. Another popular option for beginners is a vape starter kit which includes all the major pieces you need to begin vaping. The starter kits are great for getting a comprehensive look at how a device works, since you’re able to put it together yourself and change out some of the parts when necessary.

However, if it’s your first time vaping, try not to buy anything too complicated or expensive. You want to find a basic kit that includes a battery, atomizer, charger, and adapter. You’ll start to learn the names of the different devices, rebuildable parts, and other vaper lingo as you go along, but for now we’ll keep it simple. Just remember that most kits will include an e-liquid, but some require you to purchase that separately.

When and Where to Vape

Now that you know what vaping is and the best devices for beginners, it’s important to consider proper vaping protocol. The last thing you want to do as a beginner is put yourself into a position to offend those around you by vaping in the wrong place at the wrong time. A basic rule of thumb is to just ask if it’s okay to hit your device.

Normally, being outside in public areas, like parks or beaches, are completely okay. Other places can be a bit tricky. For instance, if you’re sitting at an outdoor table at a restaurant, it’s recommended to ask someone if they mind if you vape in their establishment. Overall, vaping in public has become much more acceptable than smoking in public. Just remember to be considerate and conscious of those around you.
